News:

July 20, 2022 - Still working on Nine Worlds. I did finish a percussion duo last January. I will add a listing for it in the future. This update is a technical update.

January 3, 2021 - Work continues on Nine Worlds. Movement one is finished and movement two is almost finished.

December 3, 2020 - Work continues on Nine Worlds.

November 3. 2020 - Today is Election Day. I always vote early because I was disenfranchised once in 2000.
  • So what's happening? I'm currently in the process of writing a BM in Music Business Entrepreneurship. I've had a lovely time reading the NASM guidelines.
  • I'm still working on Nine Worlds, it's been a fun project but it's difficult finding time to compose when I'm flooded with other stuff. The first movement is finished and the second will be finished soon.

August 24, 2020 - And I thought that 2019 was terrible. Bow Shock was accepted to NYCEMF 2020 and SEAMUS 2020 and then moved online due to Covid-19. I was also accepted to the Atlantic Center for the Arts for another residency during June 2020 and that was cancelled. I finished Aperture during February 2020, sent it off, and then pandemic quarantine. I'm currently working on a theater work, Nine Worlds for trumpet, fixed-media, and staging, with Jared Broussard. I'm hoping to finish it before the end of the year but composition has been slow due to quarantine and related issues. I also purchased a new computer, Max Mini, because my 2009 Mac Pro is starting to show its age and I needed something that could run newer software without causing the fan to explode. I will try and update more often but I can make no promises.

January 1, 2020 - Farewell to 2019, please don't let the door hit you on the way out. It's been a busy year. I wrote a major, a minor, and a certificate in music technology. Revised 12 concentration areas across both of our degree plans and managed to survive the expiration of all UTB and UTPA degree plans. I also started making some progress through my commission backlog and have begun to apply for festivals again. I had works premiered by Brielle, Mark, and Bill, and I am grateful for their friendship and support. Also, Bow Shock was accepted for SEAMUS 2020 and NYCEMF 2020, which is exciting. I also managed to take 12 road trips, including one to Carlsbad Caverns, which was a mentally healthy thing.

So yeah, those are the highlights. I won't go into minutiae about boring meetings or the time that I told a dean that they were wrong or any of that. I wish all of you a Happy New Year and a glorious 2020. I will try and update the website more often but work is busy and composition takes precedence over everything else in my spare time.

October 5, 2019 - Updated site and colors so that menu items are easier to read and navigate.

October 4, 2019 - Updated the Resonance Engine, Reflections on a Broken Chess Machine, Bow Shock, and Aperture pages.

December 22, 2014 - Thanks to a hard drive crash two weeks ago, I've been a bit busy recovering files instead of composing. I will be updating the site this next week, specifically my bio, which still states that I'm in school at U of I and living in North Texas.

November 25, 2014 - Due to unforeseen circumstances,
Ricochet Orbit's Kansas City premier has been moved back to the spring, which is fine because I can actually travel to that concert. I've been busy finishing Thermal Bloom this past week and expect to finish, weather permitting, this weekend.

October 30, 2014 - Fractured Focus has been entered into permanent exhibit at Yuchengco Museum. Additionally, this installation was funded by a grant from the Samsung corporation. At some point in the future, I have to visit Manila. It is a bit strange to realize that I now have a group of works that were premiered/performed without me present.

October 28, 2014 - The clarinet version of Ricochet Orbit has been chosen for performance at the KcEMA Fall Concert held in Kansas City. September 26, 2013 - I'm writing a work for four-channel fixed media as an accompaniment to a generative art work by Josephine Turalba. The concert is in November and will be on the concert page soon.

August 1, 2013 - This has been an incredibly busy summer. I spent three weeks at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna Beach where I finished a work for clarinet and fixed-media and a fully realized a 6-minute work for a collaborative video project titled
Artist Must Be with Natalia Mali. I also made a lot of contacts while there and will be composing a soundtrack for a video work in the upcoming year with Josephine Turalba.

After finishing the clarinet piece, I then went to Maccagno, Italy for the SOUNDscape festival and had a really good time. My performer rocked the piece and I am very proud of that. I was also approached about writing for other instruments(flute/oboe) and fixed-media, which is an intriguing idea and will be put in the composition queue.

As for the dissertation, it's coming along. I'm finishing chapter 2 corrections. I'm hoping for an October or November defense date as I want to have this thing finished so I can get back to being a composer.

Sundog is finished, the only thing left is to test the feasibility of the multiphonics and write the program notes. Now back to finishing La Sirena

August 12, 2012 -
Sundog should be finished by Wednesday. The largest stumbling block is the complete lack of sax fingering notation in Sibelius but it should be done by the 15th and I've reserved an additional two weeks to clean up the score and fix any notational/technical issues so maybe it will be performed this year?

Scan in Foellinger Hall at the KCPA and the rough mix sounds incredible! Hopefully, a stereo version will be mastered in the next 6-8 weeks and the current plan is to also create a 5 channel surround-sound version as well.
